Ivan Milčetić, philologist, literary historian, ethnologist and folklorist, was born in the village of Milčetići near Dubašnica on the island of Krk. He started his primary school education in Krk, which he finished in the vicinity of Pazin.
In Rijeka, he enrolled in the Gymnasium, where his teacher was Tadija Smičiklas, who had a huge impact on Ivan's life. Smičiklas encouraged Ivan to study Slavic studies in Prague and Zagreb. After completing his studies, Milčetić worked for a short time at the Zagreb high school, after which he was transferred to Varaždin.
Ivan stays in Varaždin for the rest of his life. During the day he was a professor, husband and father, and at night he researched for his scientific works. Such devoted work gave birth to an excellent knowledge of Glagolitic, but also the history of literature, dialectology and folkloristics.
