An only son in the defense of the Motherland
He was open and sociable, and in his free time he liked to fix cars.
Nenad Bićanić was born in Zagreb as the only son in a working-class family of Peter and Viktorija. After school, he was a metal worker by profession, and in his spare time he liked to repair cars.
He is described as a very open and sociable young man. Nenad was married to Snježana, with whom he had a son, Tomislav. Their family idyll was interrupted by the sounds of the Homeland War, during which this young man was mobilized into the 102nd HV brigade, as a soldier.
He participated in combat activities on the Banija front. Selflessly defending his homeland on the front line in Glinski Selište, he disappeared on December 13, 1991. at the age of 28. All traces of the young fighter were lost until March 1992, when his remains were found and he was soon buried.
He was posthumously promoted to the rank of officer deputy of the HV and was awarded the Order of Petar Zrinski and Fran Krsta Frankopan and the Memorial of the Homeland War.
