From music to gunfire
He especially loved music, he listened to the radio at every opportunity, and he also had a lot of music cassettes.
Jurica Bekić was born in Zagreb. Jurica grew up in a family with his mother Ana, father Anto and younger sister Marina. After completing his education, he worked as a driver.
They say that he especially loved music and that he listened to the radio at every opportunity. He owned many music cassettes and enjoyed listening to them daily. Jurica was temperamental and determined and was ready to do anything for a friend, but he showed the same for his Croatia when it was most needed.
This young man, as a volunteer in the Homeland War, belonged to the "Twelve Marked" Special Unit, which later transferred to the 99th HV Brigade, as a soldier. He gave his life, courage and youth on the Pokupska and the West-Slavonia battlefields.
He died on the front line of the battlefield defending the Homeland in Šagovina Mašička at the age of just 20. He was posthumously promoted to the rank of officer deputy of the HV and was awarded the Order of Petar Zrinski and Fran Krsta Frankopan and the Memorial of the Homeland War.
