Mirko struggled with diabetes for many years, and in 2016 the disease became complicated and he underwent operations. He withdrew from the public eye when the lower leg of one leg and the foot of the other leg were amputated. In addition to Zadar, he was also treated in Zagreb in a pressure chamber at the New Hospital in Dubrava so that his wounds would heal faster. In order to recover, he had to go to physical therapy, and he planned to visit an orthopedist and get a prosthesis. A week before his death, he telephoned Potjera, which was then celebrating its 500th edition. He congratulated his colleagues and participants on the anniversary and expressed his desire to return to the show again when his health condition improves. However, this did not happen. After that, due to complications, Mirko also contracted pneumonia, for which he was admitted to the Zadar General Hospital. But soon, in addition to pneumonia, the doctors also diagnosed a galloping tumor on the liver, from which Mirko eventually died on May 15, 2017. years. He was buried two days later at the cemetery in his hometown.
