Tatjana Krajač

Mar 28, 1979 - Jun 2, 2018(39)

A top journalist who was also respected by politicians

Along with the most stressful job - daily reporting, Tatjana would always find time for banter, but also for volunteering.

Tatjana Krajač was born in Zagreb. She studied at the Faculty of Political Sciences, and from the first day at the university she knew that she wanted to work in political journalism. So she already started working on Student radio during her studies.

She started building her journalistic career at Blue Radio in 1999, where, in addition to journalism, she participated in the creation of the weekly show "Rikverc" and the daily press review "Skener". She stayed at work until late, and whenever she got the chance she would "patch up" to older journalists just to learn as much as possible and progress.

She joined the Nova TV team in 2003, and during her fifteen years of work in the news program, she specialized in monitoring domestic politics: the work of the Government, the Parliament, the president and political parties. Tatjana thus participated in the editing of Dnevnik, but also in many important projects of this television company.

One of the more significant engagements was covering the American presidential race and the first presidential debate between Obama and John McCain in Denver, where she was the only journalist from Croatia.

Since the beginning of the century, Tatjana has followed all our presidential, parliamentary, European and local elections, as well as Croatia's entry into the European Union from the time before the negotiations until full membership.

One of Tatjana's professional successes should be the design and creation of the successful Dnevnik column "(In)formalno", which she edited and managed together with Mislav Baga. She herself was most proud of the series of stories about adoption problems in Croatia, where her team, thanks to the reporting, managed to force even two governments to partially change the laws and create a register of adoptive parents.

She always said that her team was like family to her, and she often mentioned that the family atmosphere is best seen during the holidays. Namely, for the New Year, Tatjana would traditionally cook her famous homemade sarma for the newsroom. She loved music and socializing, and she always kept a repertoire of local songs in her car that she would play every time she drove, which is why her car was known as the happiest car in town.

This top journalist is also known for her love for pets, especially dogs. As a volunteer, she participated in the program of rehabilitation and socialization of assistance dogs. In memory of her, the Silver Rehabilitation Center awards its volunteers with an award named after her every year.

Tatjana, a top Croatian journalist and editor and chronicler of the most turbulent period of Croatian politics, died in Zagreb on June 2, 2018 at the age of forty after a short illness. She was buried on June 6, 2018 at Mirogoj in Zagreb.
