Hand bell Ujlaki - Sulimanović

Marriage of two families

The craftsman and medicine family Ujlaki merged with Josip Sulimanović as soon as Josip married Ujlaki's daughter Terezija. The family lived in one of the oldest streets at number 13 until the end of the Second World War when the house was bombed and the craftsman family moved to number 11. The Ujlaki-Sulimanović trade, synonymous with art, produced hand bells that are still preserved in the Museum of the City of Koprivnica as an artefact of this tradition. The hand bell is in original condition, made of a combination of iron and wood and has a pleasant tone thanks to the brass ball inside the bell. Made at the end of the 19th or the beginning of the 20th century, this art object stands as a representation of the living atmosphere of a bourgeois family in that period and the lifestyle of the Koprivnica elite.
