Nov 4, 1960 - Nov 20, 1991(31)

Indictment

"I accuse you, gentlemen, of letting them starve while you were full, because you were warm and they were cold."

Radio reporter Siniša Glavašević, in the last days before the fall of Vukovar, desperately cried out for help from wounded Vukovar once again. He did this through his speech called "I Accuse". One of his last reports was broadcast on Radio 101 and in it Siniša accuses Croatian political institutions for the fall of Vukovar.

Paragraph image 1718

"The indictment by which I accuse the Parliament of the Republic of Croatia of participating in the greatest crime in history against the Croatian people, of participating in the crime against 15,000 Croats from Vukovar.

I accuse you, gentlemen, of letting them starve while you were full, because you were warm and they were cold. While you quenched your thirst with a drink of your choice in desired quantities, you condemned them to a soup spoon of water. Members of Parliament, you spent your days in tasteful homes and similar offices, and you assigned damp and dark basements to the people of Vukovar. You chose warm and soft blankets for your nights, leaving wet and smelly blankets to them. Do you really think that's what all these people voted for?

Why did you condemn our babies and our children to scabies? Are all the infections of the world reserved for the children of Vukovar? I condemn you, gentlemen of the parliament, for all their pain, for all the fear that fills children's eyes, for every muffled cry, for all the tears, cried and not cried. I condemn you, gentlemen of the parliament, for every heroic arm and leg cut off alive, for every wound cut alive and surgery performed. I condemn you for all the pain of the hungry and thirsty wounded, for all the despair and fatigue of our doctors and other medical personnel. I condemn you for all the deaths that occurred due to the lack of blood plasma and adequate medicines.

I condemn you for all the despair of a fighter when he realizes that he has nothing left to load his weapon with. I condemn you, Members of Parliament, for the moment of surprise when irrefutable evidence arrived in Vukovar that the Republic of Croatia has the manpower and all the means necessary to break through the road and defend Vukovar, but it does not want to be used, i.e. delivered to the command of the Operative Group Vukovar-Vinkovci-Županja, and which the command required for the execution of the tasks set before them.

I condemn you, gentlemen, for all the pain of the moment when Vukovar realized that there is no difference between you, the Croatian Parliament, the Croatian Government, the President of the Republic of Croatia and the Chetniks. I condemn you, gentlemen, for all the shame you caused the Croatian people by burying them. The Croatian people did not authorize you for this, and that is why I am accusing you of treason.

I accuse you, gentlemen, because you stood in front of the holy place of the Croatian people, in front of the Croatian tricolor, and traitors must never allow themselves to do that. You have tarnished our flag and that is why I am accusing you. I accuse you because you sang our beautiful anthem with your treacherous mouth, which was sung by the heroes of Trpinjska cesta, the heroes of Lužac, the heroes of Mitnica, Sajmište, Borova našelka, the heroes of Bogdanovac. The heroes of Vukovar sang it while defending Vukovar during the battle, when they buried the dismembered remains of their friends, they sang it while they were dying.

I condemn you, gentlemen, for taking that right. It is unacceptable that you, under whose blessing Vukovar is dying, sing the song of the people you condemned to martyrdom. I accuse you of participating in the massacre of the residents and defenders of Vukovar.

I condemn you, gentlemen, for the death of Vukovar. Material evidence of your undoubted guilt will be made available to the Croatian people and the entire world public. You are fooling yourself if you think that you will get to them sooner. You can't - we guarantee it. We also guarantee that in the future you will go down and remain in history as traitors and criminals and that you will go to bed and wake up with the memory of Vukovar for the rest of your life."
