In 1942, two years after winning his first battle, Nikola Šubić Zrinski took part in the liberation of Buda and Pest from Ottoman forces. A large Christian army was sent on a liberation mission, but the Ottoman army continuously defeated them under the walls of the city.

Defeat was imminent, but at the last moment, brave Nicholas rushed in with four hundred horsemen. They suddenly attacked the Turks from the flank and the city was liberated. Contemporaries spread rumors about the young military leader Zrinski all over Europe, and said that God himself had sent him at a decisive moment. After that, Zrinsko's reputation grew considerably, and he was declared the ban of Croatia.

About the childhood of Nikola Šubić Zrinski.

ikola Šubić was born in the fortress of Bribir near Šibenik. He is the son of Princess Jelena Karlović of Krbav and Nikola (III) Zrinski. Because he lived near the border with the Ottoman Empire from a young age, he was taught to face danger and fight. From the age of seven, he was taught how to use weapons and fight. The Šubić family from Bribir moved to Zrin, a property gifted to them by King Ludovik. Then Zrinski was added to the surname Šubić.

Zrin was an excellent traffic center, and the Šubić Zrinski family quickly began to get rich through trade. Their wealth also increased due to investment in the mining of mines in Gvozdan, where a deposit of silver and lead was found. They invested money in increasing the family's reputation, but also in warfare, because they are once again on the front line of defense against the Turks.

Nikola Šubić Zrinski is described as an aggressive leader, with firm management hands. Physically, he was somewhat taller and stronger than average, as evidenced by the weight of the saber he carried into battle. She weighed even - one and a half kilograms. The first battle in which Nikola proved himself took place in 1540. The Ottomans crossed the Una and besieged Zrin. Ivan went to get help while Nikola stayed to defend the fort. They fought long and fiercely.

Thanks to Nikola's skill, they successfully defeated the Ottomans. News of the abilities of these brave brothers reached the king himself, and they became famous military leaders. Over time, Nikola had to face more and more dangerous and difficult tasks in his life...

Nikola Šubić Zrinski married Katarina Frankopan in 1942. She was considered the most beautiful woman in Europe. According to the stories, the wedding lasted seven days and seven nights.

The marriage between Katarina and Nikola was arranged, and served to establish ties between the two most powerful and richest Croatian families. After the death of Katarina's father, Zrinski inherited twenty-five of his seventeen properties. In his marriage with Katarina, he had the most children in the Zrinski family - fourteen of them. He was a caring, but calculating father, he married all his daughters to Central European nobility. In this way, he provided them with a comfortable life, but he also enabled himself to expand his family ties and acquaintances throughout Europe.

After twenty years of life together, the marriage was interrupted by Katarina's sudden death. She died of pneumonia, which was incurable at the time. After her death, Zrinski married the Czech noblewoman Eva Rosenberg. He chooses her because of her origin, namely, she was a member of a respectable Czech family, but also because she promised to be a caring mother to his many children.
