Siniša Glavašević

Nov 4, 1960 - Nov 20, 1991(31)

About the professor

Siniša's passion for teaching the youngest did not leave him even in the worst days of besieged Vukovar.

Colleagues from the school in Borovo Naselje remember Siniša as a highly motivated and innovative teacher. He had countless ideas, and he realized many of them. One of his more memorable projects is turning the school library into a real multimedia center. On November 5, 2007, in his honor, the Fifth Elementary School in Vukovar was renamed the Sinisa Glavašević Elementary School. His bust stands in front of it today.

Alenka Mirković talks about Siniša's good spirit and personality in the book "Voice against cannons". Remembering the terrible war period, he writes that at the beginning of November 1991, Siniša came up with the idea of organizing a radio school for children. His passion for teaching has not left him. He wanted to entertain children who spent their days and nights in shelters and basements.

Unfortunately, Sinisa's idea did not take off. He was wounded on November 4, 1991. However, his wisdom is preserved in the stories he wrote. One of his most famous pieces of wisdom is "And the city, don't worry about it, it was in you all the time. Just hidden. So that the executioner doesn't find it. The city is you." Just as the city does not come out of the people of Vukovar, neither does Siniša come out of Vukovar. He is hidden, in his stories. Stories from Vukovar.
