Brave little girl
My grandmother's great courage and resourcefulness saved her life in World War II.
At the age of 12, Grandma Nada went through a great ordeal and experienced trauma. During the Second World War, she was in the Stara Gradiška concentration camp where the detainees were starved. After about 2 weeks, she managed to escape from the camp with several other girls and return to her native village, Rogoža, about 70 kilometers away from the camp. If Nada hadn't managed to escape by sheer luck and her great courage and instinct for survival, I wouldn't be here today either... The smell of warm scones, "Torn underpants" which she called "listanjka" and white žgani with crackers greeted us at the table every time we visited them in Kutina, and today those images evoke the most beautiful memories for me, but also great sadness because grandma no more. My grandparents' marriage lasted more than 60 years, until his death. Grandma held 3 corners of the house and always took care of the household, but she was also interested in the work and repairs of the house, and she always negotiated practically everything herself with the workers, and that is why she remained in my memory as a versatile and special grandmother.
